I was introduced to Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon at my friend Courtenay’s bridal shower. Lady Mendl’s is located within the Inn at Irving Place. The Inn is comprised of 2 neighboring adorable historic townhouses in Gramercy Park, next to Union Square. Only a small bronze plaque stating “Lady Mendl’s” marks the entrance. The beautiful and elegant private room created a wonderful environment for a bridal shower. We had an absolutely lovely time of fine tea, finger foods and friends.
From their website:
Since opening, Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon has been consistently rated the best and most romantic Tea Salon in New York City. The Victorian style architecture and furnishings recreate a time of sublime elegance. Guests can easily envision Edith Wharton or Elsie De Wolfe entertaining friends at the turn of the century. Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon is often used for Bridal Teas, small weddings, or as an intimate dining room. Set in historic brownstones from 1834 in Gramercy Park, you’ll feel like a true New Yorker at The Inn without the midtown hassle.
Lady Mendl’s consists of four tea salons all of which are available for private parties.
The Marbury Salon – 10 person minimum, holds up to 16 guests
The Evelyn Nesbitt Salon – 15 person minimum, holds up to 24 guests
The Elsie de Wolfe Salon – 18 person minimum, holds up to 24 guests
Lady Mendl’s Salon – 30 person minimum, holds up to 50+ guests
Each salon includes the use of their tea flowers, candles and other decorative elements.
Monday thru Friday – Flexible seating times and the minimum guarantee based on the private tea room being reserved.
Saturday and Sunday – Seatings at either 12:00pm or 4:30pm and the minimum guarantee based on the private tea room being reserved.
Each private room seating is for three hours in length.
Lady Mendl’s 5 course tea service occurs during the first 90 minutes. The second 90 minutes are usually reserved for gifts, presentations, and other activities. Courtenay opened her presents while I created a hat for her with all the ribbons. (Somehow this has become my designed job at my friends’ showers and must admit I love it.)
Lady Mendl’s 5 course tea service is $55 per Person + 20% Service + 8.875% tax.
You can pick between their French style or Tea Buffet. The French style service is the more traditional and formal choice of the two, while the Tea Buffet option offers a more casual setting similar to a cocktail party. The 5 course menu begins with an appetizer, followed by finger sandwiches, scones, cake and cookies all accompanied with tea of course! You can also add more courses such as a soup or salad course for an additional cost.
There are several different drink options such as Champagne Cocktails at $55 per bottle, wines as well as mixed drinks such as Bloody Mary’s and Blackberry Cosmos. A full bar is available for an additional bartender fee of $300. This service must be arranged in advance.
